ECARDS Nepal is a social development organization working since 1991 in different part of Nepal. It is working with different community focusing on the improved livelihood activities.Majority of the Nepalese people are dependent upon natural resources for their livelihoods. Agriculture is the main source of livelihood of majority of people living in the hill and mid-hill regions of Nepal. Water is the main livelihood asset of these people and water scarcity is one of the main factors that limit their agricultural production, productivity, and profitability. Soil erosion, soil degradation and declining soil fertility are also regarded as major problems in Nepal, threatening the sustainable use of sloping agriculture in the hills and mountains. Nepal is highly vulnerable country to global warming and climate change. Industrial development of the highly developed country is the sole cause of global warming and climate change. High external input agriculture, deforestation, forest degradation and land degradation is also significantly contributing in atmospheric carbon release and global climate change. Nepal has very high commitment in protecting mother earth by reducing atmospheric carbon. Nepal government has passed national adaptation plan of action (NAPA) and also have passed national policy for tackling the problem of climate change. New climate change policy has opened opportunities for adaptation, economic development and mitigation solutions. Carbon sequestration in living plant biomass and soil carbon sequestration can help in mitigation of climate change. This will also increase local resiliency and contribute to sustainable economic development. In this scenario, ECARDS - Nepal works under national and international policy framework in climate change theme for the improved livelihood of Nepalese people. It has been working since last 20 years in agriculture, forestry, health and sanitation along with other community development and natural resource management sector and gaining experiences. By using past experiences and lessons learnt, ECARDS - Nepal wants to implement new projects and new partnerships with donors and other actors in climate change thematic area. We are working in more than 40 districts and have effective network with local communities. We are also strong in technical as well as in social mobilization.
